Overview Assistant Professor - Forest Health - Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, University of California, Berkeley. Position title: Assistant Professor Anticipated start: July 1, 2026 Salary range: The current salary range for this nine-month academic year position is $80,800-$128,700; off-scale salary and other components of pay may be offered to meet competitive conditions. Position Description The Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month Assistant Professor position in the area of Forest Health. Forests provide essential services but are under ecological stress from climate change, invasive species, and other stressors. The successful candidate will address interactions among stressors to improve understanding, monitoring, and management of forest health. ESPM is a multidisciplinary community of scholars addressing environmental problems through research, teaching, and outreach. The department values inclusivity and supports diverse career paths. See the university policies for more information. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) A Ph.D., J.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrollment in a Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent program at the time of application. Preferred Qualifications We seek applicants whose work addresses forest health, including climate impacts on host-pest/pathogen relationships, threats to tree conservation, and monitoring/management innovations. Interdisciplinary and translational research that informs public policy is encouraged. The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate outstanding scholarship in forest science, entomology, pathology, restoration ecology, conservation biology, or related fields. Demonstrate strong process-based research skills and potential to establish an innovative research agenda; communicate to broad audiences; collaborate across disciplines. Demonstrate strong analytical background and field experience. Demonstrate research productivity, potential for external funding, and excellence in teaching. Demonstrate commitment to mentoring and inclusive pedagogy to support all students. Demonstrate willingness to engage in university and professional service and leadership.
