Position Description

Middleton Place National Historic Landmark-

Middleton Place is America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens and home to a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Located along the Ashley River in Charleston, Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark, Historic Home, Research Center, and Historic Plantation and Stableyards.

Position Summary- Landscape Gardener

Join the horticulture team at this National Historic Landmark in helping with general garden maintenance. The ideal candidate in this department has a passion for plants and landscaping with hands-on experience in garden maintenance.

Reports to: Vice President of Horticulture FLSA Status: Full Time Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience requirements-1-year experience working in the horticulture field
• Other required skills-Previous experience working safely with all types of landscaping and gardening equipment
• Effective work habits including time management, teamwork, and a proactive mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal horticulture training or certification is a plus
• Knowledge of plant species, soil types, pest control
• Good communication skills and customer-focused attitude

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Physical stamina and the ability to work in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Garden Maintenance-perform tasks including mowing, planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching and pruning to ensure gardens are healthy and well-maintained
• Plant Care
• Equipment Maintenance-maintain equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition, operate machinery safely and efficiently

Full-time year-round position 30-40 hours per week

Salary-$18.00/hour
