Job Description

Research Assistant - Bigg's Institute – UT Health San Antonio A research assistant position is available at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA). The role focuses on translational clinical research to understand the impact of chronic stress on Alzheimer’s disease risk and progression, as well as participation in other dementia studies. Conduct chart reviews, recruit participants, schedule visits, obtain consent, and administer cognitive and psychological assessments. Collect and process biosamples, perform assays, and assist in data gathering, entry, and quality control. Prepare solutions, set up and maintain laboratory equipment, and manage laboratory ordering and maintenance. Support protocol development, help with study coordination, and engage with collaborating sites. Perform general clerical and technical duties to support ongoing research projects. Assist with laboratory safety, order supplies, and coordinate service providers for maintenance. Responsibilities Provide routine technical assistance in assigned tasks. Assist investigators in data collection and preparation of experimental materials. Follow industry standards and safety regulations after appropriate training. Maintain laboratory organization and assist with ordering and scheduling. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email software. Education Bachelor’s degree in a basic science is required. MS degree preferred. Experience No prior experience required. Some lab/research or clinical experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience with basic molecular biology techniques and ELISAs. Experience with clinical populations. Bilingual in English/Spanish. Phlebotomy training a plus (can be provided). Required Skills None specified.
