Role Summary
The HCX SME is fully accountable for the successful design, deployment, and operational readiness of the VMware HCX platform to facilitate high-speed, secure, and zero-downtime workload migration.
Key Responsibilities
HCX Design, Deployment & Support:
- Design the HCX topology (site pairing, service mesh, network extension strategy) between the source and target VCF environments.
- Deploy and configure HCX appliances (e.g., IX, Network Extension, WAN Optimization) and ensure proper licensing.
- Collaborate with the Network Architect to validate network prerequisites and connectivity for HCX services.
- Monitor HCX performance and health during bulk migration phases.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for the Migration Specialist team, resolving HCX-specific migration failures.
Required Skills
Expert-level, demonstrable experience with VMware HCX, including various migration methods (vMotion, Bulk, Replication Assisted vMotion). Strong network troubleshooting skills (L2, L3, firewall rules).
