Overview SEIU Local 1991 is an active, growing, progressive healthcare union based in South Florida. The local currently represents Registered Nurses, physicians, and other professionals at Jackson Health System in Miami. Staff will have the opportunity to become part of building this flagship healthcare local in the South. Position UNION REPRESENTATIVE/ORGANIZER – Location: Miami, FL Responsibilities Under the direction of the Executive Director or designee, represent and organize RNs and other professionals within the Jackson Health System. Manage major areas including contract administration, leadership development, internal organizing and contract campaigns. Work within an organizing model to represent workers in all phases of workplace disputes, with an emphasis on teaching stewards and activists to interpret the contract, handle disciplines and grievances, coordinate worksite actions and build member participation. Develop and maintain steward/communication networks and conduct rounding on units to address worksite issues, as well as engage in external organizing when necessary. Experience The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, team player who has some experience within the field of progressive activism and/or organizing. Experience in union organizing and worker representation is preferred. Experience as a rank-and-file steward/activist is desirable, as is experience in the healthcare field or with healthcare workers. Qualifications and Requirements Required: A strong commitment to the values of the organized labor movement Ability to work as part of a team and promote team building within a racially and culturally diverse membership Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision Strong organizational skills and self-motivation Dedication to building a strong Union and improving the lives of workers Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc) Bachelor’s Degree required Other Requirements A valid drivers’ license, car and auto insurance are required as a condition of employment.
